    A little deceiving...

I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads. First of all, this is not a bad book. In fact, I liked, but I unfortunately I didn't love it. This book is about a family of five. There's the mother, Maddy, who works as a social worker at a hospital. Then there the father, Ben, who's a defense attorney. Finally, there' their three children, Emma, fifteen years old, Gracie, nine years old, and Caleb, seven years old. The book starts by presenting the family and their situation. The father has anger management problems and is verbally abusive to his wife and children. Therefore, to get through the day, Maddy takes pills. Then the worst thing that could happen happens. Ben and Maddy are in a car accident. The only problem is that even if an other driver was implicated, Ben is in part responsible for what happened. And now, Maddy is in a coma by his fault. The story continues with the family trying to cope with everything that happened and with what will happen next. Each chapter is told from either Maddy, Ben or Emma's point of view. The reason I didn't rate the book higher than three stars is because I would have liked to see hope all throughout the book. Now, I didn't notice a lot of change in the character's behaviors and attitudes until the very end of the book. And I found that very deceiving. At some point, I started to find the characters a little annoying, because they were very self-centered and spent a lot of time complaining. Also, a lot of issues were addressed, but none of them in much depth. Finally, there was a LOT of swearing. I know that some of it was to make the story more realistic and I understand that, but most of it I felt like it was gratuitous and unnecessary.
