Spies and a hard working woman

Johanna Langley and her mother run a decrepit inn. They have the rent due and the hearth payment due at the same time. Johanna is desperate to pay the bills, because she fears being sent to the poorhouse and her mother and little brother being homeless. Officer Alex Morton (Moore) is undercover as a gambler to catch a traitor to the crown. He finds himself falling in love with Johanna and wanting to help her and her family with their troubles. Alex has all kinds of contact with unsavory men who give him messages. He never knows who or what is next in his life. A good book, deserves a place on my favorite books shelf. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

    Totally Intriguing!

"There is nothing more - nor less - than trusting God. Therein surrender, and you will find rest." Innkeeper Johanna Langley is bone tired; tired of trying to make ends meet, tired of chasing down her errant brother, tired of carrying the burden of her family's livelihood on her young shoulders. The old dilapidated Blue Hedge Inn stands just one payment shy of foreclosure, which would send all three members of her family to the poorhouse, when Joanna literally falls into the arms of an handsome stranger on their doorstep; Alexander Morton needs lodging and he is eager to reward their hospitality with bright gold guineas. Officer Alexander Moore, a celebrated Bow Street Runner, has just been handed the chance of a lifetime or a dreaded death sentence depending on the outcome; find the traitor and "ingratiate, eliminate, then extricate". If only it didn't involve gambling away his entire future at the cost of dimming the lustre in Joanna Langley's beautiful eyes. She's a rare beauty, but Alex has his orders, and they involve the daughter of a viscount, not an innkeeper. Danger lurks around every corner in this alluring story, where everyone is exactly who they aren't and "broken things are always the beginning of better things". It's Michelle Griep at her very best! I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher. The opinions stated are entirely my own.

    Awesome Story!

In Dover, England 1808, Alexander Moore, Bow Street officer, is sent to ferret out a traitor to the Crown and must stay at the Blue Hedge Inn, which is run by Johanna Langley, her mother and her 10 year old brother. No one must know his true identity, for if he fails at his job, they could all die. Johanna must find a way to keep the inn afloat or the entire family will be headed for debtor's prison. She and Alex begin to have feelings toward one another, but Johanna values honesty above all else and Alex is, at the time, living a lie. He wants to tell her the truth, but he can't and his loyalty to the Crown must come first. Michelle Griep has yet another winner with this one. It is a stand alone novel, but has some of the characters of her earlier novel, Brentwood's Ward, which was outstanding! She has created a cast of characters that grab your heartstrings and just don't want to let go. My heart was breaking for them several times during this story. I loved the historical aspect as well. But most of all, the spiritual aspect of this novel was powerful! In fact, it ministered greatly to me during a very rough time in my life. It seemed as if God was just saying to me, 'Listen, here's what you need to hear from Me.' We can't do anything apart from God. If we are to serve Him, we must surrender. Everything. He has a better plan than any we could even dream of. This is what I came away with from this novel. I always enjoy Griep's books and this one was over the top! My thanks to the publisher for a copy of this book. I was not pressured to leave a review. My opinions are my own.

    Intriguing adventure and endearing romance!

Threads of undercover intrigue, working-class toil and strife, and sweet reluctant-romance are woven together in this high stakes adventure tempered with quirky characters, compassion, and faith! Johanna Langley is plugging away with a tooth and nail determination to save her family’s livelihood by taking on more responsibility and stress than she ought. Alexander Moore (alias Morton) is used to being surrounded by lovely ladies but he never had one like Johanna land in his life before now. Although there are connections with previously released, Brentwood’s Ward, each story also stands alone. I highly recommend both books and hope there are more stories of London’s Bow Street runners yet to be told! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a review. The opinions expressed are my own.

    Don't Think ...Just read it

Well this was my 1st book read by me of Michelle , though i was a bit sceptical about reading it as the title didnt work for me also the author was new , but wat grabbed my attention was the preview or description of the book ... I m very happy to admit i picked up this book , the author has come out with super-duper story... It is a fast paced historical romance which u wouldn't like to miss ...I loved all the ingredients dat make a successful story in this book! A hardworking innkeeper, a British spy, smugglers, gamblers, musicians, puppets, "The Innkeeper's Daughter" has intrigue, danger, mystery, secret identities, traitors and spies,Passion, sizzling chemistry ... the unique details made it stand out from others with a similar theme. Johanna's circumstances are desperate, and she keeps coming up with ideas to bring in more funds, only to find that when her plans fail, here thehe spiritual message is to trust God even when there seems to be no hope left. Both Johanna and Alex's characters ve been superbly presented by the author ... i liked Johanna's character as it comes out as strong , bold, dependable, compassionate , mature sometimes stubborn, headstrong , brave , foolish , proud but in synch with d storyline & grows on you as u read on ... I ve always loved stories where women r not portrayed as willy-nilly ,sobbing, weak humans ...Alex i fell in love with ,so adorable ... What more do i say ??? would just mention am floored with dis book ...I would surely recommend this book & Michelle am definitely waiting for more books to read from ur Kitty ... Good , Excellent , piece of work ...keep it up
