    Great Start to a Series

Review I really enjoyed reading this historical mystery. The setting is in Pre-World War 2 England which really works well with the spy/mystery aspect of the story. My favorite character was the main character, Catherine. I love that she has the strength and courage to go against society rules to seek out happiness. I also like the supporting characters of Annie, Aunt Lydia, and Thomas all of which have strong likable personalities. This is a well-written book with well-paced suspense interwoven into the lives of these characters. This is a great start to a new series, the only thing I had a problem with was the prologue (I just kept getting distracted but the info it supplies comes into play later in the book) after I got past it I couldn’t put the book down. I really enjoyed the spy aspect of the mystery. I would recommend this book to historical and cozy mystery lovers alike. I received this book from Netgallery. All thoughts and opinions are my own and in no way have been influenced.

    Look forward to the series!

I found the story held my interest from start to finish. The authors detail of words makes each character come to life. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a light mystery in an historical setting.

Good read with a couple of tiwsts

The story was interesting enough but lacked some details in explaining in this current book. Perhaps they are explained in further detail in the next novels? An interesting twist at the end that really threw me for a loop!

    The silent woman

Light, pleasant read about England's priviledged class and a spy network on the brink of WW2.

    Enjoyable book

3.5 stars I enjoyed this book and I’m hoping this will become a new series. This first book was more about situational and character developments. This story occurs right before the beginning of WWII, in England. It involves espionage, secrets and a “Who done it” mystery. Catherine Carlisle is caught in a loveless marriage and feels trapped until a friend asks her to switch some of her husband’s business papers in order to confuse the Germans. A murder, accusations, spies... Catherine finds herself involved in this melange and it gives her life a purpose. It’s a good story however, I felt that it lacks authenticity and believable characters. The characters are on the “spoofy “ side of things. For this reason I would call it “My bubble gum for the brain”. The book is well written, easy to read, fast pace and enjoyable.
