  • Interesting and engaging

Great plot and writing style. I found the book really engaging, could hardly stop listening. Adjoa Andoh's narration was superb and I'm sure it greatly enhanced my enjoyment. I've already started on the second book in the series and I'm sure I'll be reading or listening to all of Ann Leckie's other novels in future.

  • Complicated and interesting

I really like the point of view we get from the main character - it’s a different take on a sort of hive mind. The fractured timeline adds another layer of puzzle to the conflict as well. You’ve got to figure out what’s going on, and I like that sort of thing.

  • Ancillary justice audiobook

I love Anne Leckie’s imperial radch books as much as Iain M Banks’s culture novels. I have realised latterly though that female sci-fi authors are much more interesting to read. I love the soft pace of the story. Taking time to build up the full picture of what might be happening around the characters. I really appreciate the lack of long protracted descriptions of battles, or male gaze point of view - so 20th century! This book feels like a 21st century novel. The gender neutrality of the radch culture is so enlightening to read. I love the attention to the characters and the cultures, and philosophies of both. Such beautiful descriptions of alien worlds and their peoples; and the absolute alienness of the preseger. I bought the books when they first came out, now I’m listening to them as audiobooks.
