  • Great Story, terribly narrated.

Great story, a compelling read however this is marred by bad narration. There were so many mispronunciations they served as an unwanted irritating distraction; such as the letter h said as haitch, chagrin was mispronounced, I had to stop listening to work out what it was she meant to say and many others. I expect professional quality narration and production. The author should take this up with Penguin. That said this is a fabulous book and I loved the stories and back stories about the lives of these women. Strong, flawed, opinionated and oh god so funny. Let me say at one point I gasped out loud and put my hand to my mouth in utter shock! Bernardine - you bad girl. I didn't want it to end. It is indeed a worthy joint winner of the 2019 booker prize.

  • Lovely

Beautiful book. I liked how the speaker portrayed accents from different cultures. Will be listening again.

  • Fabulous book and great on audio

The book is great as an audio book as you really get the lyrical, poetic style the author uses. The story itself is compelling as each character has their own voice. I got a bit lost at around the 8th or 9th character trying to remember everyone without being able to flick back through a physical book. Some of the stories got a little lost because of that though I enjoyed how it all came together towards the end. Overall would strongly recommend to anyone who likes character-driven stories.

  • Journey on a twisting enthralling path

Listened on audio now want to read in text. So much to think and reflect on. At times I identified and others I learnt.

  • Fascinating

This story was confusing once it started jumping around different women. Listening to the audio book it wasn't clear when it was a new character or what their name was. Did they all know each other? I dunno. Still good to hear all these women stories.
