  • Fun, Steamy read

Ian is the stereotypical hot shot Wall Street broker. He is hot, a manwhore, but with a heart of gold. Lara works for the SEC and is hoping for her big case that would help her become an agent with the FBI. They meet in the break room of Ian’s company, and Ian proceeds to hit on Lara. Of course Lara is there to investigate Ian for potential insider trading. The plot isn’t real deep, but Lara and Ian are compelling characters. The secondary characters, whose books will follow, were enjoyable as well. This is a fun, steamy read. I was given an ARC of this book by NetGalley for my honest review.

  • Sexy, Swoonworthy Stockbroker

I'm a Lauren Layne addict. I adore her writing style, the sense of community she creates in her books. When I saw the blurb for Hot Asset I was immediately hooked and once I got the book in my hot little hands it didn't disappoint. This story drew me in right from the beginning. Ian and Lara have a wonderful push/pull going on. It's a bit sticky as Lara is actually investigation Ian...and isn't believing his claims of innocence. Watching these two circle each other as they figured things out was a delight. I liked Lara. I like her determination, her focus and her conviction. She was absolutely dedicated to doing her job, no matter how attracted she was to Ian. She's meticulous and thorough, which I appreciated, but she also has some vulnerabilities and I liked that. Ian definitely kept her off balance which was fun. Ian. Holy hot Ian. He's such a charmer! This is a man who makes women fall at his feet but he just can't get Lara to really SEE him. I loved how his walls came down for her and he truly put it all out there for her. He's a swoonworthy book boyfriend for sure. Like I said, there is chemistry between these two. They spark off each other in such a great way. They had me smiling, laughing, and sighing. I loved seeing the two of them come together. The writing here was fabulous. It drew me in right from the start and didn't let go. The pacing was spot on. I loved the little world Lauren Layne created here and I can't wait to revisit it again. I loved this book and absolutely recommend it.

  • Perfect Summer Read

Hot Asset will capture your attention from the very first page. The writing is phenomenal and flows beautifully throughout. Ian Bradley wasn’t always the cocky self-made millionaire. He had a hard life but was determined to reach his dreams. Lara McKenzie was born with determination and dreams. She knows what she wants in life and that’s to follow in her parent’s footsteps. She is paying her dues to reach her ultimate goal, but she needs one break through case to get her there. The supporting characters are introduced and set up nicely for the rest of the series. We are teased with their lives and left yearning for what is next. Hot Asset is about a forbidden romance that is ultimately inevitable. There are a few twists and turns and moments that left me wondering how the resolution will come. Leave it to Lauren Layne to take us on a ride on Wall Street that leaves you wanting so much more.

  • Love the wall street suits!

Ian is a ladies man. He flirts and they all fall over themselves to get to him. Unfortunately, Lara doesn’t even come close to falling for his one liners. Her lack of interest only makes him want to get in there more. Then he learns the woman he’s unsuccessfully flirting with is an SEC investigator and she’s here to find evidence that he is guilty of insider trading. What follows is a chemistry laden story of two people on opposite sides. I do enjoy an enemies to lovers trope. I actually loved Ian, despite his previous manwhore ways. Once he saw Lara he was pulled to her and continued to want more although she wasn’t giving him anything but a hard time. It was endearing watching him fall and my heart hurt several times for him throughout the story. He has a past that leaves him feeling not worthy enough and unwanted. Lara was totally career focused and I wasn’t sure how their relationship was going to end in a happy ever after. She was smart and snarky and a tad geeky. Everything I enjoy about a heroine. I wanted her to triumph but not at the cost of Ian’s freedom. Because, you know, I liked Ian. I liked Lara. I especially liked it when they finally were able to be together. Unfortunately, their coming together did not fix all of their problems. This was such a well thought out, fast paced read with some fun and interesting secondary characters. It never bogged down and I was never tempted to skim. When this couple were free to give in to their desires the heat level was quite intense. The ending had many layers to it and I appreciated that this author didn’t take the easy way out. I’m especially excited to learn that there will be more in this series with Ian’s friends being the focal point. Altogether, this was a great read that quickly pulled me into the suit wearing world of Wall Street and I cannot wait for more!

  • Great start to a new series!

Sexy and smart Wall Street hotshot in a forbidden romance with the SEC agent investigating him for insider trading? Completely irresistible premise, and there was no question I wanted my grabby hands on this book! What I found within was a solid start to this fun new series. Oh, and some delicious literary suit porn, of course. Smartly written and full of the sort of snappy banter I've come to love about this author, it was so easy to fall into Ian and Lara's story. I might have liked to have a little more of that at times because in the end I felt like their love story moved very quickly and my heart didn't always keep up for the ride. I felt like perhaps I didn't connect with Lara the way Ian did, like I was missing something about her that caused him to fall so hard and so quickly. I might have liked to see more vulnerability there - though in the end my heart caught up and I was beyond happy with their happily ever after. The secondary characters in this one book were so much fun to read, and their interactions and interference with Ian and Lara's story were perhaps one of my favorite parts of this book. I adored Ian's friends and the way they interacted with each other. They are funny, fiercely protective, fun - and I am so excited to dig deeper into their stories. In the end, this was a great start of a new series for me. I'm definitely invested, and definitely want more where this came from. ~ 3.5 Stars
