  • Starting to understand the love for this series

Whew, I finally started this series after years of saying that I would someday. Of course, I have a whole lot of catching up to do since the series has 50 some odd books at this point. If all of the books in the series are as good as this one was, I have some wonderful reading ahead of me. I really had a great time with this book from beginning to end and found it to be a very quick listen. I spend a lot of time reading reviews and talking about books so I have seen a lot of love for this series. I have seen a ton of reviewers talking about how much they love Roarke so I was pretty eager to get to know this character that inspired so much praise. After finishing the book, I have to admit that Roarke is pretty awesome and I am betting that he is only going to better as I get to know him over the course of the series. Eve is pretty awesome as well :) I was pretty impressed by the mystery in this book. It was a lot more intense than I expected it to be which was a nice surprise. When a prostitute with important connections is murdered, Eve gets the case. The murder is brutal but Eve dives in and works to find who is responsible. Before she can get any traction in her investigation, things get even more complicated. Susan Ericksen did a fantastic job with the narration of this book. I loved the voices that she used for the various characters and especially appreciated the accent that she used for Roarke. I thought that she was able to add a lot of emotion and excitement to the story. I wanted to listen to this book for hours at a time and believe that her narration added to my overall enjoyment of the story. I would recommend this series to others. I liked the futuristic setting of this story and thought that the mystery was quite complex. Throw in some fantastic characters and you have a great start to the series. I cannot wait to listen to the next installment!

  • Great series starter that is still timely today!

Great detective story and quite the sexy sizzle between Eve and Roarke. For a book written in 1995 and set in 2058, this book is so 2020/21! It's fun to see how many of the futuristic things are now commonplace. It's also scary how human nature never changes. I think Nora is a little psychic. Highly recommend to anyone who likes detective stories. I'm just a little late to the In Death party. I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator is excellent.

  • Decent but not for me

I thought the audiobooks narrator was quite good so my low rating is mostly because I didn't like the love interest character. I won't be looking at the sequels because of this. The romance scenes themselves were well written. The investigation part of the story was interesting, so I would encourage anyone who likes the main love interest to get into this series

  • Exceptional.

Such a strong opening story for this series. Have read and listened to the book and audiobook many times. Eve Dallas’ world is a wonderful one to visit. The characters are fully formed, but each book in the In Death series reveals more. The relationships, dialogue and crime solving are so well done. Nora Roberts/JD Robb is an extraordinary authour!
