  • Great world, shame about some of the writing.

I love the world KC Alexander has created, cyberpunk where you live & die by your rep, wits & weapons. K. C. is great at describing the world and their action scenes are heart pounding, especially in audiobook format. I honestly did want to listen to the end to live in this world for a while. Sadly however, enjoying this world is made a lot more difficult by the style of Alexander's writing of conversations & Riko's thoughts. The main character Riko analyses everything another character does & says during nearly every conversation. It slows everything to near halt having Riko point out phrases like "Jax wasn't flirting with me because I had screwed up so much, I was in so much trouble.." followed by "did he just say what I thought he said? That put me even more in trouble..."and so on and so on in every conversation. Just let Jax (or whoever) speak then reflect on the conversation afterwards if needed. Most of the conversations speak for themselves (pun not intended) so the reader knows what the situation is BEFORE Riko explains it to us, dotting every i and crossing every t aa she does so. This also ties in with Riko repeatedly recapping the story inside her inner monologues which is immensely frustrating. "Thanks Riko but I HAVE been paying attention up to this point." However, as stated, I wanted to see how Riko's story turned out. I'm just not sure I can make it through the follow up. Which is a shame.

    Thanks for your feedback!
