  • Fine setting for historical fiction

Gentill creates an authentic, if at times strained historic atmosphere. As always with such novels there is a degree of happenstance to move the plot along and a requirement to introduce a cast of characters but a good read, fairly well paced and I'd read more of the series. I do however hope for greater character development among the female characters two of who are itching to tell us more about themselves.

  • History to life!

What a great way to encounter the fascist period in australia. We can be entertained and yet be reminded of serious matters and dangers. Surely the main reason for story telling.

  • Evocative

Australia in the 30’s was quite extraordinary and Gentill has woven history and fiction together in a story that I did not want to end. I will definitely be reading more
