  • A Fraction of the Whole

I'm not sure what I thought about this book! However, it was compelling and I could not put it down. Parts were hard to believe but then again they were about experiences that most of us would never have, such as fleeing one's country in a boat, or leading a life of crime. These aspects were so well structured and beautifully written, that I found myself giving them a great deal of thought. The story is told from the father's point of view and from the son's. What is the truth? Maybe a combination of both!

  • Quite disturbing.

I am not sure I liked it...but I couldn't stop reading. An extraordinary insight into life, well written. This book makes you feel.

  • Clever and funny but driven down by excessive cynicism

This book is an imaginative journey of father, soon and an odd array of characters. The style is surreal and the flavour very much like Catch 22. In the end though it pot me into a dark frame, there is just not enough light or air in these characters to make them enjoyable. The writing though is witty, the author has some wonderful insights into the human psyche and it's absurdity. I just wished he'd expressed more hope in us and his characters.
