  • "A Good Wife"

This is a story of a woman's determination and tenacity. Forced at 17 into an arranged marriage, moved to a new country, and initially feeling love for, and loved by, her new husband Samra is unsuspecting of how her world will change . The collapse of the good feelings starts with the arrival of her in-laws. Their derisive treatment of her and interference in their son's marriage starts a downhill slide for Samra. Two children later, physical, emotional, and mental abuse do not deter her from finally achieving her goal to attend university. This is a tale too often heard - not just in arranged marriages - about the subjugation of woman by their husbands followed by apologies and promises to change. The book becomes a little long in my opinion as we hear over and over again about the abuse suffered. That being said, it is a good read and one that should open our eyes a little more about women in this situation.

    Thanks for your feedback!
