  • A Short Best Book

I had never read this short novel but was drawn to it recently as I have appreciated E M Forster’s other books. Forster had the ability to stand back and view society with its’ class differences, at both their best and worst, and to write a compelling story in a somewhat exaggerated and satirical manner. Normally I really appreciate short novels as I believe that a talented writer doesn’t need a lot of filler to tell a great story that will draw us in. In Room With A View I loved the plot, related to Lucy, and felt I got to know the other main characters with one exception. I didn’t feel I truly got enough about George so that I could understood why Lucy fell in love with him. I practically cheered when she dumped Cecil (as being married to him would have made Lucy unhappy). This is one time when I would have preferred that the author add some additional pages to the book so all of us could have learned a little more about George.

    Thanks for your feedback!
