  • Joy in Cornwall

A really sweet series of stories about a lovely part of England. Even though Cliff House and the village are fictional, the descriptions are very good. The characters are a real joy - Julianne and Matt (Ross if you're into Poldark) go from striking sparks off each other to the kind of happy relationship we all dream of. Along the way, there are hiccoughs of distance, the whole "what if I say it and he/she doesn't feel the same" thing and a sense that, whatever, they're in it for the long haul. Julianne is an event consultant with little clout in Seattle but being in Cornwall (I won't even try to spell the village) brings her into her own. Matt looks like he's just a gardener come handyman but he's really an eminent professor. The cast of characters connected to Cliff House are a real joy - from Lord William and Lady Amanda to Dinah, Gemma and Pippa in the kitchen and Geoff outside through to the villagers in the pub (don't get tricked into buying Ned a drink) to the chip shop - best oggies (pasties for those of us who know good pastry treats). The way Kitty develops from a surly young woman with a chip on her shoulder to someone capable of doing Julianne's type of work is an absolute joy to read, as is the fumbling through the rehearsals of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Best of all has to Constance's wedding, closely followed by the secret in the royal wedding. I hope the picture on the front references Cliff House; it's too big for what I imagine the cottage to be. Truly beautiful - read and enjoy.

  • Light and Fun

These books are great holiday reading. They are light. Doesn't get into too much drama. You care about the characters. And the characters have story arcs. Fun holiday romance reading

  • Easy and a good feeling read

I loved this series and a wonderful read during the pandemic we are in. I visited Cornwall briefly about 10 years ago and I enjoyed the visual descriptions of this beautiful village. It was easy to get involved with all the characters and a bit of sass and love stories were awesome. I will be purchasing the next series. Thank you Laura Briggs :)
