  • Friends to Lovers Romance with Swoons and Angst

The minute I read the synopsis for Addicted to You, I knew I had to read it. The friends to lovers trope is one of my very favorites and Addicted to You did not disappoint. The story revolves around Isla, Colby, and Colby's older brother, Landon, who have all grown up together in the small town of Port Lucia. Yes, at it's core, it's a love story, but the relationships are not just between our main characters, but also between them and their families. I loved Colby and Landon's bromance. They are not just brothers, but also friends. They support and look out for each other, and truly want the other to be happy (even at the expense of their own happiness). Their personalities could not be more different, easy going Landon and brooding Colby, but their devotion to each other (and Isla) made them all the more loveable. Another relationship I loved in the book was between Isla and her grandmother. She's the grandmother we all wish we had - funny, understanding, supportive, loving, and an amazing cook. Delicious empanadas?!? Yes, please! :) Isla's relationship with her grandmother contrasts greatly with her relationship between her parents and brother, and I was grateful that her grandmother brought some lightheartedness to the book. So why not 5 stars? Well, I found that although Isla and Colby were very likeable characters and I was rooting for them from the start, their drama and misunderstandings were a little too much. I was frustrated by both of their assumptions about the other and wanted to scream at them on more than one occasion to just stop and talk. I also didn't quite buy that all the main characters could be that blind to the obvious truths in front of them. Colby definitely annoyed me more with his hot and cold behavior, but Isla also made things more complicated by trying to play things cool when what she should have done was just be honest. I knew that there would be angst and drama going into this book though based on the synopsis, so I wasn't as bothered by it as some other readers may be. I really enjoyed reading Addicted to You. It's a sweet and swoony story, that's in the same vein as Jenny Han's The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy. The epilogue was perfect and I'm hoping to see more of these characters in subsequent books. I definitely recommend Addicted to You if you're looking for a fun and romantic read! *Many thanks to Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept Flirt and NetGalley for providing this ARC free of charge*

  • Great NA read

This is a great NA read and the beginning of what should be a fun series to read. It's a friends to lovers story and it takes a while for these two to come to the realization that they both having more than friends feelings for each other. There is a great group of secondary characters which will make for some interesting stories in the future. Isla Diaz has been crazy about Colby Callahan forever and she's ready to take things to the next level. Sadly he's put her firmly in the friend zone and she doesn't see any way out. Until one stormy night changes everything. After a night of incredible passion Isla is hopeful things will change between them but it appears Colby is determined to get things back to the way they were. Isla simply can't figure out why. Now Colby is pushing her towards his brother. Should she just give up on him or fight for what she is sure would be a great thing? Definitely one for the must read list. I highly recommend it.
