What a humble lady whose courage and tenacity touched the people around her. Her bravery is an inspiration to all who know her or read about her. Many thanks Alicia for writing this book. Shalom....

  • Well Written, Great Courage, Shocking Experiences

I have read many books by survivors of the Holocaust but this is one I couldn't put down because of Alicia's courage and at such a young age. Many times I thought she would not survive but she did. Many times I was shocked at what she had to endure, and warmed by how well she took care of her mother. For someone who did not live during WWII, and WWII in Europe particularly, Alicia's experiences are sobering - hiding in bunkers, running away from a death squad, eating only one slice of bread and a cup of sour milk a day, hiding in fields and ravines, seeing her mother shot right beside her, the deaths of the rest of her family, people that betrayed her or helped her, her coolness and intelligence at only 14, the terrible boat trip to Israel and I was shocked to read that they were then imprisoned by the British! Definitely a must read.
