  • All the Birds Singing

Miles Franklin Award Winner 2014. I hated the ending. Not an award book in my view. Thought Jake was male for awhile until I realised not. Why does the author think Australians have male names for girls and female names for males, where did this come from? Author may have spent time in Australia but not long enough! Will read Tim Winton's entry to MF and will compare.

  • Gorgeous

Loved this, two very different landscapes described so beautifully. And Jake's story is told so cleverly in two parts; one starting now and moving forward, the other in the past moving backwards. So the story of her past and how she ended up n the island isn't at all clear until the second last chapter. Heartbreaking.

  • All the birds, singing

A bit slow to get started, but then the story started to twist and got interesting. Very abrupt ending though, i dont feel like it's finished!
