    Interesting new paranormal

There is an evil force. His last name ends in ...putin. Molly Shannon is a good wife to her attorney husband, until she discovers strange panties in her bedroom. She drops them in his martini glass (way to go Molly) and then takes everything out of his safe before she heads out the door. Molly also discovers that she is having trouble controlling the special powers that are causing objects to fly, cars to stop and fuses to blow. Josiah is masquerading as the new DA in town. He is a witch on a mission to eradicate the evil force. Josiah helps Molly survive her powers and escape the bad guys (who want what was in the safe when she left home). He also becomes her baby daddy. In the course of this book, Molly gets a divorce, dumps family and friends who do not have her best interest at heart and creates a new family in California.

Great start to a new series!

I was a little worried that I would not like this since it is not part of the Elder Races series. I am happy to say that I was wrong. I can't wait to read more!

    Molly is amazing!

Thea Harrison's “American Witch” (ARC) is not a long read but it is a very enticing one. I couldn't put it down, and stayed up way too late, to find out what happened next! “American Witch” is the story of Molly, a middle aged woman who is betrayed and suddenly finds her life upended. While strange new powers are blossoming inside of her, she learns much more about herself, the husband who betrayed her and the magical world in which she finds herself. I admire Molly's fortitude and her determination to find her own path, regardless of the pressures put upon her. Thea Harrison has the best characters. Molly is definitely not an archetypal wimpy female waiting to be rescued by a big strong handsome man... but you may be able to find one of those lurking in the story!

I cannot wait to see where the rest of the America

What I liked: American Witch was engaging from the start. Mary was easy to identify with, and her decisions were reasonable. I liked that the main couple had a moment of passion, but did not immediately disclose eternal love for each other. They recognized their shared desire did not guarantee a relationship would be the best for them under current circumstances. Experiencing Mary coming into her witch powers was tense and exciting. The big battle at the end of the story shows Mary, Josiah, and other coven members are going to be a formidable force. I cannot wait to see where the rest of the American Witch series goes. What I didn't like: Honestly, the plot mechanics used to get Mary out of her current life was predictable to a point. The conflict with her husband, and the repercussions of their break up, I saw coming. I will say that in the end, that predictability did not matter. Watching the characters develop, and their priorities change overshadowed what little I didn't like.
