I really really enjoyed this series. The audiobook is also narrated beautifully by Saskia Marleveld. The pacing is a little off but the author takes the time to introduce our characters and realistically pair them up to form the group they will become, the Chimera. The characters are realistic and we get to see them grow over time, nothing insta here (that's a good thing!!) The world building is pretty cool and I'm excited to learn more about it in the coming books. I finished book 1 and 2 about a week ago and I'm still thinking about them daily wishing I could revisit the world and the characters again but alas, I must wait until Feb 2021 for book 3!!

    Thanks for your feedback!

  • An Illusion of Thieves

A bit of a slow start, but well worth the effort... I highly recommend it.

  • An excellent, character-driven fantasy

What an excellent, character-driven fantasy! I loved Romy! I love her resourcefulness, her wit, her drive. I love that she never succumbed to hopelessness despite all that she suffered at the beginning. I'm wary of a possible love triangle. I can feel it looming. I'm hoping I'm wrong. That Placedio and Romy would remain friends, because goodness knows Romy is starved for one! Should an eventual romance bloom between them, I had hoped that Romy would have recovered from her feelings from the Shadow Lord, but judging how this book ended, I don't think that's going to happen any time soon. Sadly it seems that the sap in me that always wishes for a nice, tidy romance will also be unsatisfied, considering Romy could only ever hope to be a sidepiece for the Shadow Lord. Another thing I wished to have seen was more prominent female characters other than Romy. Vashti was a great addition, but she came in a tad late. I'm hoping there would be more girls in their heist team. Other than those two things (which really aren't deal breakers, nor did they diminish my reading experience much), I enjoyed this immensely!

    Thanks for your feedback!
