  • Another Fabulous story!

Set during the closing year of the Great War, Bess with the help of Simon tries to unravel a mystery that has besmirched her nursing reputation. Another great mystery in the Bess Crawford series. An engrossing story that is wonderfully evocative of the era. Highly recommended!

  • Compelling mystery

As usual, the Todds give us believable characters, great plot development and a compelling mystery. Most enjoyable!

  • OK but not great

I've enjoyed all the Bess Crawford books but this one became tiresome. It started well, dragged in the middle and then picked up towards the end to a great conclusion. In the middle of the book, it seemed dear Bess and Simon literally drove around in circles through an area of the British countryside. It seemed like the authors were enjoying describing some part of Britain they toured. Bess and Simon would reach yet another dead end in their investigation, and turn to each other and say, 'what do we do next?' It felt like the authors were asking each other, 'what do we do next with this story?' And the answer always seemed to be for them to have their characters to continue to drive in circles in the countryside the authors likely had visited on a vacation. Still, an intriguing and good start and finish.

    Thanks for your feedback!
