  • Add Some Spice to Your Life!

I recently won the third book in this series, since this is my first experience with this author and the book is a part of a series, I thought I should read the first book and get acquainted with the characters and author's style. I am so very glad I made that decision. This cozy mystery is set in the Seattle Marketplace in a spice shop and the main character is a early 40's gal starting over in her second career after a divorce. I can so relate to this character in age and career changes that I immediately connected with her and her friends. The author has a natural knack for developing quality characters and bringing a vibrant and vivid setting to life. The storyline was interesting, intriguing and humorous. I highly recommend this book! Now, I've decided I need to read the second book while I await for the author's ARC of book 3 to arrive!

  • A great first book in a new series!

This, the first book in the Spice Shop Mysteries, is, I hope, the first of many exciting and interesting reads! Pepper Reece, in her early 40's, is starting a new life at the Pike Place Market in Seattle. Recently divorced from her beat cop husband, she is now the proud owner of the well established Seattle Spice Shop in the market & a loft near her place of work. She is starting over with the help of her many foodie friends and her shop's employees. When one of her employees is arrested after a suspicious death in front of her store, Pepper believes that the cops have made a huge mistake and is determined to rectify the error. I loved the location for this mystery. Leslie Budewitz, the author, brings to life the exciting Pike Place Market. The market, a place where tourists & Seattleites mix and mingle in an eclectic atmosphere, has always thrilled me in person and this book really captures the vibe and ambience of the place. Pepper and her friends and employees are likeable and the mystery is engaging. I am really looking forward to the next book in the series and a I have a sudden craving for shopping for new spices!
