  • Unbearably great

A great story. Uplift, tranhumanismand some space opera bound together with some unbearable puns.

  • The worst of all worlds

A startling tale about power and control. Our future world, riven by war and starting to die. The well-to-do are preparing for the diaspora. A ruthless megalomaniac pursues a seat on the World Senate. His great talent is getting people to do what he wants. In a factory/laboratory complex a stream of prisoners provides experimental subjects for a genius neurosurgeon. The result: new forms of life. Biomorphed humans, task specific. Animal/human hybrids, purposed for battle. Once more human ingenuity has outrun human ethics to shocking effect. Meanwhile on Mars a modified for purpose workforce powers through constructing a habitable settlement for the coming emigrants. It's a horrifying prospect. When war erupts, humanity's defenders are the non-human servants who have outstripped us. Vigorous and inventive telling, though I couldn't always join the dots. Not so far-fetched: the ferocious, unbalanced billionaire is clearly modelled on a notorious politician.
