  • Woefully out of date on arrival

Give the book a miss, or risk being misled. Sapolsky says it took him decades to put this together, and it really shows. I am an evolutionary psychologist and so am directly familiar with the literature he describes in this book. The problem is that large swathes of it has been debunked in the past decade. Priming, for example, has been shown not to be real. Power posing: not a thing. The studies he describe, when repeated by independent research groups with many more participants than the original studies, fail to produce the same results. Google "the replication crisis psychology" and you'll see what I mean. While there are bits of the book that hold up, you're better off not bothering.

    Thanks for your feedback!
