  • Absolutely enthralling

I began this book series because I so enjoyed the netflix rendition of The Duke and I and soon after realized it was based on this book series. I read this collection in merely a week. Initially I was saddened that each book would not follow Daphne and Simon, but soon found myself taken with the stories of the Bridgerton siblings. Each story was equally capturing in remarkably different ways. I look forward to reading the remainder of this series and highly recommend it!

  • Fills in the important details

I have never read Julia Quinn, but am now a fan and will continue to devour her work! Like everyone, I loved the first season of Shondaland’s Bridgerton on Netflix. Enough cannot be said about the production values, costumes and Rhimes’s character and plot tweaks in the first season of the screen adaptation which stimulated my interest in Quinn and her characters. Shonda Rhimes has added immeasurably to Quinn’s stories and characters. Shondaland truly sets a platinum standard for period pieces. It is visually stunning and lends itself well to binge watching. Don’t know how we will wait for the next season! Though a fan of the Netflix production, I also found reading The Duke and I very satisfying. In the first three books of this series, Quinn has constructed compelling characters and brought to life the details of a different time, place and society in a way that makes the reader care. I found my suspension of disbelief flagged a bit towards the end of Benedict’s story, or maybe it was just that the story dragged a bit, but still liked the characters and the resolution. Can’t wait to read Eloise’s story, but launching into Colin’s next. While Quinn doesn’t pretend to aspire to the level of Diana Gabaldon, her romances are well-written fancy that readers will enjoy.
