  • More a detective story than a spy story

Was expecting one thing and got another. Really enjoyed it. Twists and turns, characters building up from foggy foundations, friendships being forged, plot peeling back in layers like an onion. Only oddity was the report near the end - reads like a synopsis - everything else flows really from the page. Looking forward to the next one!

  • A good George Smiley primer

Good opportunity to go back to the beginning of George Smiley's career in espionage and discover what make shim tick.

  • Classic Le Carre

Each Le Carre book is like a fine wine or spirit. I would descrbe Call for the Dead as a mellow, well-aged port. Hard to put down, but with a writing style that makes you want to savour each page.

  • Excellent subtle exposition of the human condition

First non sci-fi book I've read in years. This book is a subtle page turner with no heroes, only shades of truth.
