  • CAUGHT READ-HANDED by Terrie Farley Moran

CAUGHT READ-HANDED by Terrie Farley Moran is the second book in the A Read 'Em and Eat Mystery series. It’s the story of Mary Sassafrass “Sassy” Cabot and Bridget “Bridgy” Mayfield owners of the Read ‘Em and Eat combination bookstore and café. Sassy visits the local library with book donations for the fund raiser and literally run into Alan Mersky after he’d had an altercation with Tanya Lipscome, aka Tanya Trouble, a library volunteer. She see a strong resemblance to an old friend, Alan - also her old boss, so much so he could pass for his double. Not being able to let that resemblance go, she contacts her friend, George, and finds out that Alan is his brother. It seems Alan is a homeless veteran with PTSD who has been known to disappear for long periods of time. George is thrilled to now know where Alan is and for the help Sassy offers. Tanya is found murdered in her hot tub with all evidence pointing to Alan. The police arrest and charge Alan for the murder. Sassy has her hands full trying to help an old friend and his family to prove that their loved one, although troubled, couldn’t have possibly been the murderer. With her fellow business partner, best friend and fellow sleuth they will keep business humming and work to prove Alan’s innocence! Ophie, owner of a retail shop and Bridgy’s aunt, and Miguel, chef at the café, are there to do their part in both keeping Read ‘Em and Eat running smooth and to spice up the investigation as well. Pastor John and a group of veterans join forces to help Alan get the help he needs and in proving him innocent. The author has written a cozy mystery that will hold your interest from the first page to the last. You will not want to put this book down and you will be turning pages to see what’s going to happen next. She mixes in laughter as well as somber moments. She gives you clues where some help and some lead you on the wrong path making it intriguing to read and the ending an unexpected surprise. She brings many issues into the book like the homeless situation and our veterans who suffer with PTSD that not only enlighten but also work so well to make the story real and very believable. From the happenings in a tourist town, running a successful business, supporting friends or extending a hand to total strange with kindness – Sassy and Bridgy will have you wanting to visit Fort Myers Beach, Florida and to eat at the Read ‘Em and Eat! CAUGHT READ-HANDED can be read as a standalone. If like me, you will be searching for the other books in this series after you read this one. I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves a great written cozy mystery that will have you putting on your thinking cap and feeling the emotions that the author is writing about. Check it out – you won’t be disappointed in either to book or the author!
