  • Refreshing, funny and fabulous!

I have found the most refreshing comedic murder mysteries I have ever read! They are by J. A. Lang. The 'Chef Maurice Cotswold Mysteries' series takes place in the idyllic countryside of England in a small, quaint village called Beakley. Full of charming, beguiling and oftentimes, bumbling townsfolk. The first book, Chef Maurice and a Spot of Truffle, has Chef trying to solve the murder of his mushroom supplier, Ollie. He is aided in his investigation by his best friend, Arthur Wordington-Smythe, the local food critic for the England Observer. They are both constantly chided by PC Lucy Gavistone, a member of the village constabulary. These books are just fabulous. They will have you rolling in the aisles and laughing out loud! They are short books and very fast reads but I am trying to read as slow as I can to make them last. Right now, there are only three and I'm on the second one. Please, do yourself a favor and read these books. I guarantee, you will not be disappointed.

  • Really Cute Story

This story is really cute. I loved the humorous language and the mystery really works. I was just a bit hard-pressed to remember every one for a while.

  • Really enjoyed this, eager to read the next book.

I've heard of temperamental French chefs and pigs that can snuff out a truffle, and really enjoyed how they came together in this cozy mystery with a dash of Hercules Poirot seasoning. Chef Maurice was concerned when Ollie, his regular wild-mushroom supplier didn't deliver the goods, and amazed when he discovered in the man's fridge a rare and very expensive species of truffle. Did Ollie find these somewhere in the local woods? The Chef tests a few dogs but they don't seem keen on this unusual smell. Hamilton, the mini-pig he discovers at the local abandoned animal shelter, gets one whiff and is hooked. So chef Maurice, his friend Arthur along to moderate the chef's exuberance ---especially behind the wheel --- and Hamilton go wandering the woods. And discover Ollie's body. He's been shot.

  • Great read

A good who done it mystery. This was a comfortable easy read. I like the development of the characters and loved Hamilton's side of the story! Can't wait to read more in the series.
