Interesting story line! Two different love stories. Believable feelings expressed for the time period. Sex scenes well written with warmth! Stand alone story!

  • Love this Story!

London, England 1819 Lady Millicent Brinton was so elated. After two years she had ceased to be the focus of gossip and the endless whispers of society. Now maybe she had a chance at happiness.. or at least friendship and contentment in her marriage to Jeremy Winslow. While at a ball, they had walked outside to get some air and as Jeremy rubbed her arms to help the chill she heard ... "Would you please.." a deep voice interrupted from behind her. "Remove your hands from my wife." Merciful heavens! It was his voice! That is how Tristan came back into her life. I was captured from the first few pages and could not wait to find out why Tristan had disappeared on their wedding day and had been declared dead. The way he had treated her after the wedding was atrocious. It had been more a marriage of convenience for both. He for her money and she because her father wanted his daughter to marry a title. The man who now appeared before her declared he was a changed man and would make everything up to her. He was going to be a real husband and treat her as she deserved. He declared "I want your trust, your happiness, and most of all, I want your heart." Of yes I loved this man. Tess St John has woven a story filled with intrigue, a mystery, an attraction that slowly builds and sizzles with two main characters who are strong and come alive with their thoughts and actions. As everything unfolds I could not wait to see what happened! Prepare to sit back and read awhile, because you will not be able to put it down! Cannot wait for the next in this new series! Perfect!

  • A suspenseful but heart-warming romance

Struggling under the weight of her husband's disappearance on their wedding day and later reports of his death, Lady Millicent Brinton has dreaded every encounter with the ton. On the cusp of getting engaged once more, her rakish husband reappears with a story that makes little sense. Lord Tristan Brinton is fully aware of just how appalling his behaviour towards Millicent has been and waking up on a convict ship is the catalyst for turning his life around. Apart from investigating who orchestrated his disappearance, he is also determined to win Millicent's love and prove to her that he is a changed man. Instead of disbelieving Tristan, Millicent gives him the benefit of the doubt but navigating society is still difficult, especially as the gossips are having a field day at her expense. The underlying tension in this book steers the course of the plot, but Tristan and Millicent's love story touches the heart. Tristan's protectiveness towards Millicent brings reassurance, and he is surprised when she finally reaches out to him. This novel is well written, heart-warming and tender without being maudlin or overly sweet. The secondary characters are also interesting and I enjoyed their story as well. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
