    Fantastic read!!

Estep has been one of my "must-read" authors for some time and this installment was no different! I was given a complimentary copy through NetGalley but the review is 100% mine. I came into the book hoping to find Estep's fluid writing style with a colorful, vibrant world full of adventure, intrigue, and passions of all kinds. I honestly got what I expected in the writing, the world creation, the character building, and the plotline itself. I will say I had a hard time respecting and liking Evie as a Queen. She is in her late 20's but behaves pretty immaturely in my opinion, however, I did keep her life in mind as someone who lived around the courts but not raised to rule. Overall she handled things like an average person would handle being in power so I didn't take any stars off for my personal feelings of unsureness. Overall the character lineup is so diverse, rich with personality and drama, and kept the book moving at a very pleasant pace. I loved the intrigue, the Regalia chapters, and Sullivan and Evie's romance. I highly recommend the series and this book!

    Crush the King 👑

The end...Gosh I wish it didn’t have to end! This book was everything! Ever since I first picked up ‘Kill the Queen’, I have fallen in love with the characters, the world ‘Crown of Shards’ is set in & overall the plot. Each book has been better than the last and each ending has left me wanting more. Crush the King concludes Evie’s story however I full expect Jennifer will be continuing writing more books in this world particularly focusing on a special little gargoyle friending girl. Perfect for readers who are looking for a story that includes action, fantasy & a hint of romance!

    I couldn't put it down!

I devoured this book! I always have a long list of books that I need to be reading and I try to work through those books in order but every once in awhile a book comes along and all of my plans are thrown out. I just had to get started with this book as soon as I had a copy in my hands and once I started, I couldn't put it down. It is just that good! Evie and her group are on the defensive once again. It seems like the assassins just are not going to stop trying to get to Evie so she wants to turn things around and go on the offensive. It is time for the Regalia Games and Evie is gathering her times to match up against the other nearby kingdoms. There is a lot at stake and all eyes will be on Evie for the duration of the event. I think that I grow to love Evie more and more with each book in this series. She is smart and seems to be able to think several steps ahead at all times. She is incredibly brave and will put herself on the line when necessary. She never planned to be queen and hasn't trained for it like most have the opportunity to do but she is a natural. She wants what is best for her kingdom and really does care about others. This book was incredibly exciting. From the early assassination attempt until the final scene, I couldn't look away. I had no idea how things would go and I was pretty worried about the characters several times during the story. There was a lot of action but there was also a lot of political maneuvering which was a lot of fun to watch as well. I loved that the book was able to keep me guessing until the very end. I would highly recommend this series to others. I would recommend reading the series in order since each book builds on the events from the previous installment. I will say that this book felt very final to me which was a bit of a surprise. I hope that we see more books in the series and the finality that I felt was just the conclusion of a larger story arc. I definitely plan to read more from this very talented author. I received a digital review copy of this book from Harper Voyager via Edelweiss.

    Fun and Exciting

I love reading Jennifer Estep books because they're always easy reads that are just about fun escapism. This book in particular reminds me a lot of Estep's flagship series, ELEMENTAL ASSASSIN. The characters are fun and the action is engaging. The world feels very familiar and lived in, even with its creatures and the hints of magic. The story had some great moments with assassination attempts, traps, and clever plans. With this, there were some excellent action scenes with magic and sword battles. Evie remained a strong character, even when she worked on shady plots to become extremely powerful. There were great moments between her and other characters like Paloma (one of my favourites), and Serilda (who should have a series of her own). As always, the villains were quite evil, but some had some surprising depth, and things were not so black and white as Evie might have believed. This series has been a fun read and I recommend it to anyone looking for a fun escape!

    Revenge

Loved the premise of a supposed nobody that was able to succeed.
