  • Daffodils

The two main characters who at first seem simple and look forward to a life of service to a well to do family in their small British countryside village morph into quite the complex characters. Personal tragedy befalls the newly married couple and then World War I breaks out and draws them both away from home. He to France to fight for his country and to try to heal from his loss and troubled marriage. She too leaves home in search of a cause to make her feel that she is contributing to the war effort and to search for her husband who is reported as missing in action. The author really draws you in by vividly describing the war and the friendships that develop in spite of class differences. In the end love prevails, and all begin a new life in a vastly changed culture. I will definitely be reading the sequels to see how the characters adapt to their changed post war new world.

  • A wonderful read!

Lots of history which although during a very tragic period fuels the story. Characters are real and you become a part of the story. Thoroughly enjoyed the book.

  • Daffodils

A nicely written book about people, their love, struggles and perseverance during world War I. A nice realistic view of class differences in Britain and how the war changed people and their attitudes.

  • Good insight into the first world war

This is a good love story, but I really loved the descriptions of the mud, the trenches and the gender roles during WWI. Well written.
