  • 3.5 stars for me.

I read this book everywhere - I could always be found with my nose buried in it while I ignored my children. It completely sucked me in. I'd guessed a couple of the twists, but that was fine because I was waiting for the 'how' and the resolution, rather than just a big reveal. However, I was pretty disappointed by the ending, and the fact that the twist appears to alter much of the premise of the rest of the book. In fact, I felt as though the effort to surprise the reader threw the plausibility of the story into doubt. I would have even preferred being fed hints of what was to come (even if this took away the element of surprise) because I would still have enjoyed watching the twist in action for the characters while they weren't aware of everything I could see. It has been a few days since I finished this book and I have been mulling over my response to it. I think I feel cheated by the inner monologues of the characters - as if they lied to me, because they certainly seem to have lied to themselves in an effort for the author to keep her ending under wraps. After having enjoyed this book so much that I told everyone I spoke to all about it, I was disappointed to reach the last page with a different opinion. I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in return for an honest review.

  • Clever, original and creepy!

Daisy in Chains is clever; clever in many ways but mostly it’s a clever story, cleverly written. There isn’t much more I can say, it’s original, creepy, scary, shocking you name it, it has it. It had me enthralled from beginning to end and every page in between. I loved the style, I thought the characters were brilliantly drawn, and the writing was wonderful. I loved Little Black Lies, it was one of my five-star reads of 2015 and I was looking forward to this one. It was certainly worth waiting for, this one was even better and I am a little sad that I can’t give it more than five stars. It’s definitely going to be one of my top reads of 2016 so five MASSIVE stars from me! Sharon Bolton is now right up there in my favourite authors list. Thank you to Netgalley and Random House UK for the opportunity to read an advance copy.
