  • Awakening of maritime history

I had no idea of Dampier’s significance in English and world seafaring until reading this fascinating coverage of our previously missing or untold maritime history.

  • The great southland

A very interesting and compelling story of the early discovery of different parts of the world. Also the ongoing search for the east coast of terra australis?

  • People "Down Under" will get a lot from this book.

Rob Mundle has a knack of taking what could be dry history and presenting it in an entertaining (and in this book even exciting) way. His research is good and he chooses such interesting material that many people who know little about the exploration of the southern hemisphere will be enthralled. People from that part of the world will find a few surprises along the way.

  • Great South Land

Brilliantly entertaining. Mundle rolls through much unexplored early history of the mysterious southern land. His cameo of Batavia ' graveyard was transfixing and exciting. But his portrayal of William Damper's travels was a classic in itself, and a fitting conclusion to the adventures of so many mariners. The stories are captivating and highly readable and turn history into 3D. All schools should include this work in every study of Australia's early history. It's all brought to life with colour and zip. Another great effort by Rob Mundle.
