  • Felt like I was peeking into a possible Future

What an interesting book. If you are good at keeping multiple personae straight without having to take notes you will enjoy this read. There was so much going on that I tended to get confused. In this book, I can see a future of AI's absorbing the human condition of surviving. The further you get into the multilevelled psyche of the characters - the further you'll be drawn into the story and wanting (no, needing) to know what comes next.

  • Action-filled, deep, rich, thought-provoking plot

What an amazing, unexpected turn that took! Everything you thought you pieced together in Cold Between Stars - yeah, think again! This book takes the reader on another wild ride into slowly growing horror of an entirely different kind. And it is done so well. The clues were all there in book one - pieces of information Kuma had, but didn't have a context for or things he observed but didn't have the correct perspective to understand. His journey to follow the pull to find his identical twin sister (not a mistake, and yeah, that was really well done in this series too) starts unraveling an ancient mystery with farther reaching consequences than he ever imagined. This story is told from a 3rd person limited POV, so the reader slowly builds a picture of what is going on along with the not always so reliable MC. He's having to constantly re-evaluate what he knows, what he thought he understood, and assimilate it pretty much all on his own. Some of the scenes take on almost a dream-like feel as his mind is trying to reconcile what he knows with what is. Action-filled, with a deep, rich, thought-provoking plot. This is the second book in a series and there is a lot of world building and character development in the first book that you need to understand to appreciate this book. The aliens, the critter, the fug, the shipmind, the mental abilities etc; well worth the read - do read Cold Between Stars first if you haven't already. Sci-fi horror that slowly creeps up on you. Both books have full story arcs, but end by throwing the MC into a situation full of danger an possibilities making you wonder how is he ever going to deal with this?!

    Thanks for your feedback!
