  • "Dragon Burn" - Book 11.5 in the Dark Kings series

I just finished reading this novella February 09, 2018. This is my review. I really enjoyed this novella in the Dark Kings series. The main characters are Dragon King Sebastian and Gianna, a human woman who is the assistant of the Kings' enemy. Even though this novella is part of a series, you can absolutely read it as a stand alone, although I do suggest reading the series because you will be more familiar with the side-characters and the overall story line of the series. Sebastian is on a mission to Venice. He's determined to find out if Ulrik is working with his uncle Mikkel or if they are each working on their own to start a war with Con, King of Dragon Kings, and destroy all humans. Ulrik was one of his best friends before he was banished. So to prove that Ulrik is innocent of past wrongs (at least some of them), Sebastian's plan is to seduce Gianna, Mikkel's human assistant, and use her to get the information he needs. The last thing he expected was to develop feelings for her. Gianna moved to Venice after a painful divorce and immersed herself in her work as assistant to her boss, Oscar Cox, and running his Venice operations. She doesn't have time for romance or any type of relationship. When she meets Sebastian, there's just something about him that's different. When she takes a chance and opens her heart again, she never expected to have her world turned upside down. Such a great addition to this series. I really liked the main characters of Gianna and Sebastian. Gianna is strong and independent but has closed off her heart and struggles with letting herself feel free. Sebastian is very confidant and focused on his mission but struggles with his mission when his emotions for Gianna surface. The story is fast paced and flows really smoothly. The romance between Sebastian and Gianna is seductive and steamy. The ending of this novella teases the reader as to future potential story lines within the series. Overall, I really liked this novella and I will definitely continue to read more of them within the 1001 Dark Knights collection.
