    One for the keeper shelf!

DUKES BY THE DOZEN looked like a dream come true for historical romance lovers, and best of all, it lived up to my very high expectations. While not all the novellas rated 5 stars, those that did were so stellar that I feel justified in giving the anthology a 5-star rating overall. With such a bevvy of fantastic historical romance authors, it was to be expected, but I am astounded at the results. If you like historical romance, are a fan of any of the authors', or want to discover new authors, or even give historical romance a try, you could not wish for a better collection. My personal favourites are the novellas by Gina Conkle, Elizabeth Essex, Jennifer Ashley, May McGoldrick, Grace Burrowes, Anna Harrington, Heather Snow, and Eileen Dreyer. As you can see, it's a very high number of outstanding stories for an anthology, and a book for the keeper shelf!

    Great collection

This is a good collection of stories. Notably the women are strong, intelligent and determined. No wallflowers here. Since these are by different authors, the stories are very different. I won’t dissect each story but I did enjoy every one of them. This is a great book to have on your e-reader for those times you need a brief read or two to distract for awhile. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

    Historical Romances

Dukes By The Dozen What a delight this collection of historical romances was! I have read some but not all of the authors who have contributed to this book and felt compelled to write my review before finishing all of the stories because I want to get the review posted as soon as possible. I will read a story a night before I sleep because I am sure sweet dreams will follow the reading. The novellas I have read are: HOW TO DITCH A DUKE by May McGoldrick: This story had me smiling a number of times. Lady Talor Fleming was quite a woman and so wasted on her father and brother! Thankfully the Duke of Bamberg knew a catch when they met in the mud and pursued Taylor till he caught her. Loved this story! DUELING WITH THE DUKE by Eileen Dreyer: Another wonderful story with a bit of a second chance aspect to it. I loved the way Adam and Georgie meet and how their story unfolds. They so deserved one another and the happiness they found. THE DIFFERENCE ONE DUKE MAKES by Elizabeth Essex: What a wonderful this story proved to be! I loved both male and female lead characters and so many scenes in the story. Another couple well suited to one another and their story a marvelous read. I am looking forward to reading the other stories soon and may return with updates. I would like to thank May McGoldrick for the copy to read – this is my honest review. 5 Stars

    A Wonderful Collection

Amazing!! A wonderful collection of stories by some of the best authors in historical romance and I love them all! What is not to like about a Duke? Plus you get a baker's dozen which makes it even better!! Prepare for adventure, humor, some mystery and suspense and of course heart melting romance that will just make you sigh... Duke in Winter by Alyssa Alexander When a Duke is halted to "Stand and Deliver" by a highwayman, he never expected to be shot! Lady Beatrice was shocked she actually hit him! Her aim was usually perfect! Of course it had to be Wulfric, the Duke of Highrow. A fun story of a female highwayman who takes from the rich and gives to those in need! The Difference One Duke Makes by Elizabeth Essex Commander Marcus Beecham was about to have his life change drastically. Summoned to return to London and be away from his ship, he was shocked to find out his brother Caius had died and now he was the Duke of Warwick. I felt so sorry for Marcus! He had lost his arm in the war but his mother did not even welcome him back. Just stated he had to marry! Fortunately for him, he ran into his childhood friend, Penelope Pease, at the first event he attended! She had certainly grown up and it just might be she was perfect for him! Discovering the Duke by Madeline Martin May I say this stole my heart? Married after a whirlwind courship, Julia had been left by her husband after their wedding night. Where was he and who was "Maribel" he had rushed to see? She attends a house party by her friend in the hopes to get away and see if her husband will attend. A beautiful story of two people who were meant for each other. They both had their self doubts but it seemed fate would bring them back together! Madeline always writes a story that makes me smile. The Duke and the April Flowers by Grace Burrowes The Duke of Clonmere is being persuaded to choose a bride from one of four sisters. Such a delightful story as he maneuvers his way to the one he really wants! Loved both of these characters! Love Letters from a Duke by Gina Conkle A Duke who needs to find a wife and hopefully from the house party given by his mother. Of course the younger women just are not appealing and his focus goes to Charlotte, an older widow and friend of his mothers. Both have their recent troubles to deal with but it may just be they are perfect for each other! Her Perfect Duke by Ella Quinn A father who bethoths his daughter to a Duke, but she wants to find love. Amazingly she is introduced to Giles, the Duke of Kendal by that same man she is to marry! A wonderful story of love found when least expected! How to Ditch a Duke by May McGoldrick A tale of misunderstandings and a merry chase that will eventually lead to love. Lady Taylor, a heiress is determined not to marry a man that only wants her money. When she meets Franz, the Duke of Bramberg, she is very attracted to him. That is until she finds out he is broke and needs a rich wife! She goes on the run to hide in the highlands, but Franz shows up again! Such a wonderful story that takes you on a journey of love and delight! To Tempt A Highland Duke by Bronwen Evans A story of lost love that may can now be found. Lady Flora had always loved Dougray but he let her marry another many years ago. Now he has a title of Duke and wants to marry her. But how can she trust him and risk being heartbroken again? Such a hearttfelt story. Duke in Search of a Duchess by Jennifer Ashley A widowed Duke who has encased himself in stricture so he can deal with everyday life after the death of his wife. Left with three children who become matchmakers, they ask the widow next door, Helen, help to find him a wife. Thus begins a whirlwind that can only end in an unexpected attraction Dear Duke by Anna Harrington Be still my heart. I loved this story! Cora's father owns the grist mill and John, the new Duke of Monmouth wants to build a canal which will ruin the mill. He offers to buy and Cora refuses to sell. When Cora finds an old ring, she writes a note hopefully to find the person who lost it and with the ring pins it to a tree. This begins an exchange of notes between her and John although each do not know it is the other. Such a wonderful story that could only make me smile with delight! Must Love Duke by Heather Snow What do you do when you are expected to marry a Duke, but you only want to marry for love? Rescue a puppy from drowing with the aid of Maxwell, the Duke of Albemarle. He can only think of her but how will he convince her to want him too? A delightful story that shows love comes when least expected. The Mistletoe Duke by Sabrina York The machinations of a mother to help her son find a suitable lady to marry, because it has been too long since his wife's death and he needs someone to he get his twin daughters under control! Enlisting the help of her companion, Meg, who is also his childhood friend should aid her in planning a Christmas party
