  • Family hi-jinks

I’ve now read all seven escapades of the Mantoni family and loved them all. A great blend of fun and romance.

  • This series just gets better and better!

Carlina Mantoni and her beloved Stephano have finally done it - they got married in a beautiful ceremony with almost none of the madness that occurs at any Mantoni gathering. At least, until things fall apart at the wedding reception. Dorotea, younger brother Enzo's date, is head of Camicie d'Silva, a well-known fashion house in Milan. A beautiful but driven and rather unpleasant young woman, she is a force in fashion and finance, and when she is shot dead at the wedding reception no one knows why. The police, however, believe Enzo did it, especially when he admits he was in the garden alone at the time of the murder after a disagreement with Dorotea. Their case is only strengthened when Dorotea's attorney reveals that Enzo is the sole heir to her fashion empire. When Enzo is charged with the murder Carlina and Stephano have no choice but to try to clear him while they try to have a few scraps of honeymoon amidst their sleuthing. I very seldom give any book a five star rating, but ELEGANT DEATH deserves it. Beate Boeker is a wonderful writer whose powers grow more and more enchanting with every book. This is book number seven about Carlina and the slightly mad Mantoni clan, and the best one so far. If you love a good solid mystery with a light gilding of romance and an insider's view of the fashion industry, run do not walk to get a copy of ELEGANT DEATH.

  • Yet another chunk of Mantonis' saga

As usually I read the book twice, once to get the core of the story and the second time to really appreciate all nuances of these weird but so much familiar characters. The story started at the main character's wedding - yes, she finally got married to her beloved! - and developed twirling among many plot twists which eventually lead to an unexpected end. A intriguing and catchy book to spend some good spare time with, laughing at the Mantonis family components' behaviour, so funny and yet so lovely.
