  • Voyage to war

It was very obvious written by an officer who focused only on the wardroom activeties. Not once giving any credit to the lower decks contribution too the ships running.

  • Voyage to war

A mediocre book, solely due to the authors nose in the air and wilful oblivion to things going on around him. Having spent the bulk of my adult life as a squady, finishing as the equivalent of WO II. I have had the privilege of working several times with all of HM services, most operational, some training. Mr. Barrington comes across as the type of officer who is concerned with his own comfort and fun first, followed by the (admittedly) required functions of the Mess. He shows virtually no interest in his one and only OR, even when he becomes ill enough to be hospitalized, viewing it as an irritant and inconvenience rather than the potentially life threatening disease that it could have been, but thankfully was not. In my experience (1974-2015) officers of his ilk invariably get their comeuppance, but sadly not until an OR, or God forbid another officer has paid the price. I have no doubt Mr. Barrington is a very bright and, to a great deal self educated man; likely for the love of learning. It’s sad that he seems to feel the need rub this “superiority” in other’s faces. I had to force myself to read it, mostly as an a exercise in self control. Conventional wis is has that everything offers something to learn. I’ve learned that I shall remember the name, if only as an author to stay away from. To all the members who took part in the operations that allowed a repatriation of the Falkland Islands, and I don’t mean only those who deployed, BZ! To all the members of HM forces that I have been given the opportunity to work and plat with, my sincerest thanks and appreciation .

    Thanks for your feedback!
