  • Brilliant book that changed how I saw Australia

A worthy winner of the Age Book of the Year prize. Explores how the illegal (under British law) founding of Melbourne opened up the Australian continent to the fastest land rush in the history of the British Empire, and the consequences for the Aboriginal people. It was only after this that the British gave up trying to control where Europeans could live. Argues there was NOTHING inevitable about this. Serious history but accessible to all and beautifully written

    Thanks for your feedback!
