  • Love a good AI story

How do you get around an entity that monitors you at all time? Lots of deep thinking, rich new, turn-your-head concepts, inventive twists, SCIENCE with FICTION. Thanks Robert, again. Such a robust read. A yowser.

    Thanks for your feedback!

  • Worth reading

It's very difficult to review this book without spoilers, but here's what I CAN say. Sawyer deals quite well with many aspects of personality. Not in great depth, but adequately to make his points. The choice of first-person narrative by a voice other than the central human character was perfect for this story. I think that the narrator's stated goal at the end of the book isn't prepared well enough, so it seems abrupt (though not out of character). This book could have been stellar, but doesn't quite reach that level. Nevertheless, I recommend it if you like books about people in space and don't need war with BEMs to be entertained.

  • Picks up in second half

I had some trouble through the first half, the human interactions felt a little stiff and stilted, but it picks up from there and moves forward more quickly. The conclusion included a couple of neat twists that make the journey worthwhile. I will say that some of the background explanation was not entirely convincing, but it was good enough for the main points to stand. 3.5 rounded to 4.
