  • Loved it!!

This was my first book by Amelia Grey, and I very much enjoyed it! I love it good historical romance, and this did not disappoint! We start out with a brave, daring young beauty, Julia, caught up in a tree (not your normal way to start things lol). While being stuck, a very handsome man, Garrett, rides up and happens upon her. He climbs up to help her, and it’s instant attraction on both sides. We soon find out her life with her son is complicated, and she yearns for freedom for the two of them. Garrett wishes to help them, and the more they work towards this goal, the stronger their feelings grow for each other. I love how their relationship grew, how brave she was in her time, and how he would go to any lengths for her. Can’t wait to read more from her!

  • A Bit Too Proper

Sadly, this wasn't my favorite book. I loved the cover and the story bio made an amazing sounding book, it just didn't deliver to my tastes. The story line was good, but having to hear about how the duke was threatening to take away her son every over page got old, fast. Julia was too pious for my tastes as well, I like a little more spirit in my heroines. When they made love, she was still calling him Mr Stockton in the story, not even his first name. The hero wasn't very stand out for me. There didn't seem to be much of a reason for him to instantly fall in love with her. The book just wasn't very appealing to me. Thank you for the opportunity to try the advanced copy from NetGalley.

  • Two stubborn souls find love

This is the second book in the First Comes Love series. You do not need to read the first book in order to enjoy this story. Julia Fairbright had lost her husband when the Salty Dove sank and she was newly with child. Now four years later Julia and her two friends, Adeline and Brina have started a school for young girls who were affected by the sinking of the Salty Dove. While trying to raise her young son, Chatwyn, Julia has to abide by her late husband's father, the Duke of Sprogsfield, or risk having the child taken away from her. These rules include not having any other men involved in her life. Enter Garrett Stockton. After a fun and entertaining way of meeting, Garrett and Julia are both very attracted to each other, but Julia keeps him at arms length because of her father-in-law. As Garrett and Julia spend more time together, Garrett vows to do whatever he can to help make Julia his....even if he has to go up against a duke because for the first time in a long time Garrett has found a woman who speaks to him more than the open wide seas. It will take a little nerve and a lot of luck for these two to find the answers they need in order to be together but in the end love wins out! I just adored Garrett and Julia. They are both stubborn but very emotion filled people and together they just worked. I loved how Garrett took such a shine to Chatwyn and together they found something that neither of them was really looking for.

  • Fascinating story!

Four years after her husband's death, Julia is ready to move on. Unfortunately, her father-in-law, a powerful duke, won't let her stop mourning his son and holds her own young son as a means of ensuring her compliance. Just as she's discovered the old duke's hypocrisy and figured a way to free herself from his control, she has a truly adorable meet-cute with the dashing rogue, Garrett. This story charts their love story as well as the intricate story of her fight for freedom. Garrett is recruited to help her and her son, and the lengths he's willing to go to for her are truly heroic. I was enthralled with every bit of this complex story, and loved the emotional intensity between the two main characters. The HEA is necessarily unconventional yet extremely satisfying. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

  • Up a Tree Rescue

I must have missed the first in this series but had no trouble enjoying this second one. It is a typical historical read with the women not having control of their romantic lives or finances. Ever since Julia Fairbright lost her husband at sea she has been forced to be sheltered by her father in law and threatened with the loss of her son if she even attempts for a future life. Garrett Stockton has made his fortune on the seas and has only returned to London to settle some business. His life takes a turn when he finds Julia perched in a tree. A copy of this book was provided by St. Martin's Press via NetGalley with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion."
