  • The Grail Quest

A very interesting novel which stirs interest in a much forgotten period of English history. Most people have never heard of the "Hundred Years War" let alone that England once owned almost half of France, either through High Marriage or Conquest. Bernard Cornwell brings the period to life through Thomas of Hookton and wraps a story around the "Holy Grail"

  • Amazing

A well thought out and executed novel.the plot moved along and incorporated just the right amount of personal and historical details. The insight into life as a medieval soldier and the gruelling battles was truly enlightening.a great read and I am eagerly looking forward to the next installment.

  • Brilliant authentic writing

A really great story with plenty of authentic material. Gives the full impact of being an archer involved in one of the greatest battles of the French versus the English armies which sparked off the 100 years war. Told from the point of view of one of the archers it is thrilling and full of graphic details. As always Bernard Cornwell is a great writer. On to book 2 of the series/
