  • A good gentle read

I found this book a touch long-winded but loved the characters, especially the dog! Personally I am not a great fan of books written completely in the present tense and this type of writing seems to be becoming more and more popular. Because of this, I am not sure I would want to read another of her books.

  • Hell Bay interesting

This book feels like it moves along at a slow pace . The characters were well described as were the locations.I thought the descriptions of the dog were good and helped to lighten the story. Would not have guessed the ending. A good police investigation.

  • Well crafted detective mystery

Great book. I like a well-crafted detective mystery, which this is, and the sense of location in it is powerfully written. A book should transport you, and this certainly does. My only complaint is that this brilliant title (there is of course a real Hell Bay, which faces the full fury of the Atlantic, hence the name) has been used before by author Sam Llewellyn, so I took a star off for treading on another author's toes. Agents and publishers really should be more careful of such things.

  • interesting

thoroughly enjoyed this one. I like the fact that it was set on an Island with so few people. I began to suspect everyone at some point during the book. The characters however were a little flat compared to some crime books I have read hence four stars

  • Stunning book

This book feels like it moves along at a slow pace but don't be fooled. Everything unfolds so tantalisingly slow, the backdrop making for the most deeply atmospheric book I've read in ages. An excellent read.
