  • Texas Murder Files

I am a huge fan of Ms Griffins Tracers series set around a forensics lab in Texas - so it is a no brainer for me that when a new series is announced I am going to be there. This series is again set in Texas where Ms Griffin resides and the opening of the book packs a punch with the murder of a young woman. The problems begin when they are unable to identify her - yes they have a name of a person but she doesn't exist and they are unable to find family, friends or any background on her at all. Bailey Rhoades is a crime reporter with the local newspaper, Jacob Meritt is the homicide detective assigned to the case. One would think this was not going to be a match made in heaven with Bailey refusing to disclose her sources and Jacob refusing to share details of the case but Ms Griffin makes it work - and kudos to her for putting two dedicated professional people together whose professions are at odds with each other. This creates a little push and pull between the characters and their romance. I really enjoyed the book, the mystery and suspense just dragged me in and there were nice twists and red herrings along the way. The characterisation was good - the only niggle that I have is that the romance was a little on the light side. However, it was a good start to a new series and we got a little sequel bait with a couple of the secondary characters.
