  • Rubbish

This opening book is sluggish, boring and repetitive. The scope is grand but the characters are bland and the writing uninspired. An alien race called the Klikiss? A warship that has to turn about in order to receive a transmission that it leapfrogged (via the FTL stardrive, allowing it to overtake an electromagnetic signal). Surely a ship in space that has FTL travel capabilities has an omnidirectional transmission receiver? What kind of warship Admiral or Commander in the face of battle with space pirates wants to just kick some butt? One written by a child in the '90s. Anderson is stuck in the past and has not updated his literary style and it shows. I thought this book was written in the '80s/early '90s and hoped to skip a few volumes to when he had developed his style but this title is from 2002! Do not read. It's such a boring waste of time that I skipped to the last chapter so I could put it down in peace.
