  • Clever & Beguiling!

Well, this is a real puzzle; who's a goodie and who's a baddie? I think I had every character in both camps at some point or another . . . Jack and Anna used to be married. The haven't seen each other for quite some time when a body is found on their home turf. Anna, a tv journalist and Jack, a Detective Inspector for the local force, are re-acquainted over the corpse. As the death count continues to rise, it's a race to see who can find out what's going on first . . . Entitling the chapters 'him' and 'her' was a real stroke of genius as, whenever I though I had worked out who the narrator was, something would happen to make me doubt myself. As the story plays out and the murder count rises, my little grey matter had a fine work out and ended up every bit as confused as when I began. With pertinent information dripping in every now and then, I congratulated myself on getting one or two small matters correct but, just when I thought I knew everything that was going on, one final revelation left me reeling! I really hadn't a clue; the author had me completely hoodwinked and I was both shocked and stunned to discover who the guilty party was. A clever and beguiling read from a talented author who knows how to keep her readers committed and dangling! Absolutely deserving of all five sparkling stars and a hearty recommendation.

  • Exhilarating & Haunting

This twisty, exhilarating thriller had me guessing and then second guessing the whole time, as it stampeded along. As soon as saw this novel I knew it had to be read, and it certainly did not disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed His & Hers, a deeply engrossing tale of mystery, duplicity and suspense. The book is narrated mostly from two viewpoints. Anna Andrews is a key TV presenter and news reporter working for the BBC. Her ex-husband, DCI Jack Harper is the lead detective in the investigation of a woman found murdered in Blackdown, Surrey, a quintessential old English area which is both Jack's and Anna's home town. When Anna is asked to cover the story, she is reluctant at first, but agrees. Then the victim is found to be an old school friend of Anna's, so she is unable to leave as she is right in the middle of the action, but is no longer covering the story. For his part, Jack has chosen to keep the fact that he also knew the young woman to himself, until he realises he is a suspect... Alice Feeney has a very appealing style of writing and the characters she created were very believable, giving me a great sense of apprehensiveness and foreboding. I was immediately questioning the characters motives as they were both so secretive, and connected to the crime in some way, making for some exceptionally nerve-racking reading. I found His & Hers totally riveting, the various unfolding of events and revelations making this book even more absorbing. The story-line was absolutely fantastic and the suspense was kept at a maximum level throughout. In this tense tale of betrayal, alcoholism, bullying, domestic abuse, and other particularly unpleasant themes such as rape, paedophilia and animal cruelty Alice Feeney eventually wraps everything up very neatly in a thrilling, fulfilling and satisfying ending. Although this drama thriller was horrific in places, it was still an absolute pleasure to read. Even if the plot had been less stimulating I would have devoured these pages with equal gusto and enthusiasm. I’ll certainly be looking out for more from Alice Feeney! I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request, from HQ via NetGalley and this review is my unbiased opinion.

  • Gripping storytelling

I enjoyed the format this book was written in, from 3 different perspectives, one being the killer. Kept me guessing until the very end. Most enjoyable.
