  • 'Hit' by P. S. Bridge.

I think this was probably a first novel. The publishers should hang their heads in shame. The book is riddled with spelling and grammar errors, and some of the prose is downright clunky. The author doesn't escape criticism either, even though, as I said, I suspect this was a first effort. Many of the action scenes are missing important preceding bits of information. Others, too many, are just improbable. The plot is interesting enough that I kept reading to find out what happened, even though the majority of it was telegraphed. But the characters are just so one dimensional, so stereotypical, that the reader doesn't want to engage. The dialogue is unintentionally comical, with one Spanish character starting out speaking standard English, only to devolve into Ricky Ricardo a little later. Must have been the stress of appearing in such a bad book. The character of Mark King is unrealistically competent at violent mayhem for a suburban lawyer, and suffers very little trauma to his soul considering what an evil doer he becomes after a personal tragedy. And why does the hero of the book have to spend so much time smoking? I think Big Tobacco might have sponsored the author. All in all, an unsatisfactory debut for Mark King, and his creator.

This lawyer becomes Superman, tech expert, master strategist and warm hearted killer as he romps through Europe pulling off one mission impossible after another. Sure.
