  • Fun, page turning read!!!

**Received ARC for a fair and honest review** Breathe is the 2nd book in the Rosewood Bay series. I personally don't think that this book could be read as a standalone as the first book has to do with Phoebe's (the h in the story) sister and has a lot of their backstory. This was a very enjoyable read I would rate this book at 4.5 stars. Phoebe hasn't had the easiest life, between a drug addict mother and thrown into foster care she's got a lot of hangups. Not to mention that she got pregnant at 16 and now has a son, Jamie that she's been raising with the help of her aunt who pulled her and her sister out of foster care. Phoebe wanted to make something of her life and has become a successful realtor. It's during a transaction with a house going on the market that she runs into her first love, and also Jamie's father, Jake. She tried to find him for years unsuccessfully and when she meets the contractor making upgrades to a property low and behold there he is. Jake was kicked out of the foster home he was in for corrupting what the family deemed an innocent girl, aka Phoebe. After getting kicked out, life wasn't easy for him and he made a lot of mistakes. But those mistakes led him to Master's Construction, who gave a degenerate kid with a record a chance. Now years later he's done well for himself and when he's working on a construction job and the realtor comes in, the last person he's expecting is the only person he's ever truly loved. This was a great story. I really enjoyed the characters, though you never want strife, the strife was believable and something common, ex spouse issues. Really enjoyed Phoebe and Jake together, enjoyed how Jake stepped in immediately to take care of his son, and battled the ex and made sure there was no differentiation between the kids. I was sad that you didn't see Jake's mom meeting the Jamie though. The first book was ok, but I loved this book. I also loved seeing Halley and Kane in the book and updates on them, and Aunt Joy. I can't wait for the next book in the story!!! That I'm not giving any spoilers for. Hope this helps. Happy Reading!!!

  • Second Chance Romance

I love a good second chance romance and this book fit that bill and even threw in a secret baby! There is a little drama thrown but no so much as to pull away from the romance that Jake and Phoebe are rediscovering. I love being able to sit down to read and forget life for a while, Ms. Phillips gave me that with this book!

  • A perfect, heart-melting summer read!

This is book two in the Rosewood Bay series and it features Phoebe Ward and Jake Nichols. This is a wonderful, feel good second chance romance. Of course we have the ex-wife who asked for the divorce but didn’t REALLY want it. It’s that old saying, “be careful what you wish for.” She’s a real whiny, needy pain in the tush, which makes things harder for everyone involved. Jake is a great guy and just alpha enough to be amazingly sexy! This is a perfect summer read with a heart melting story line and enough steam to keep you wiping your e-reader screen. It’s always a pleasure to read stories by this author and I can’t wait for book 3!

  • Breathe

Phoebe is a realtor and is helping to oversee a renovation. Jake is in charge of the project. They met when they were both sent to the same foster home. Things happened and Jake was sent away. Phoebe was taken in by an Aunt she didn't know, along with her sister Halley from the first book of the series, Fearless. Almost 12 years ago, Phoebe gave birth to Jake's son Jamie. He is now divorced and has another child, his daughter Callie. Phoebe's Aunt Joy had hired a private investigator to find Jake. She told Phoebe he didn't find him, but he did. She kept the truth from Phoebe, because Jake was in prison for Assault and Battery. Phoebe talks to Jake and finds out he defended a woman at a bar, but the man hit his head and needed surgery. He was in for 6 months. Jake goes to dinner with coworkers and a woman points out his son. Phoebe is upset because she wanted to share the news in private, not at a pizza place. They spend time together and start dating. Phoebe and Jamie meet Callie. Jake buys a house with Phoebe as his realtor. Jake's ex wife Lindsay uses Jake to show him they belong together, but he is over her and with Phoebe. The end of the book is Halley and Kane's wedding. Jake proposes and Phoebe accepts. The third book Freed, is about another sister, Juliette.

  • Truly enjoyed this second chance at Love story!

Love the Rosewood Bay series! Truly enjoyed this second chance at Love story! Also love the beautifully written explicit love scenes that make me feel everything right down to the very tip of my toes (and other places too!!). The characters have stories that make them human, the language is realistic, yet not crude. And most importantly, I love the feelings this story evoked within me… Beautiful “Happy Ending”! Love the “quality” of Carly Philips’ books!! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
