  • Tautly plotted police procedural!

Home Fires Burning is a tautly plotted police procedural and fourth in a series by Lisa Hartley. You just want to sink in to this complex mystery, with realistic characters and a storyline so full of puzzles and twists that you’ll keep wondering until the last page. After the returns from leave, Northolme DI Catherine Bishop is quickly enmeshed in three seemingly separate crimes. An arsonist has been setting fires randomly around the town, a man and his wife have been found dead in their apartment, and another dead man has been discovered in one of the burned out buildings. The team of detectives faces several problems. They lack the manpower to stake out all the empty buildings in town, the dead man and his wife were murdered hours apart, and the man found in the building had been strangled before the fire was set. Next come the long hours of the investigations, as Catherine and her partner Jonathan Knight, pressured by their superior officers, try to solve the cases before there are more fires or deaths. Lisa Hartley has delivered a near perfect police procedural. Catherine Bishop is a multilayered character, trying to balance her career and her private life. Jonathan Knight has the same problems, problems that I hope are resolved in the next book in this excellent series. 5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Canelo and Liz Hartley for this ARC.

  • Great

This book is a great read if I'd known it was book 4 in the series I would have read the other 3 first so I got to know the character of the detective and what had happened to her Never mind this book as loads of twists and turns and I was shocked at the culprit Also how sweet the detective was wanting to help

  • Home fires burn

This the firth book was just as good as the first, a great series well worth reading from the beginning, fast paced with great characters that grow throughout. Highly recommend.

  • Start at the beginning of the series.

I admit I am not familiar with this series so coming in at book 4 perhaps I didn't really 'get' all the nuances in the relationships. Mostly I found the mystery interesting enough but all the side stories kind of confused things.

    Thanks for your feedback!
