    Ill-Gotten Gains

Like returning to old friends. Warm, engaging, suspenseful, with the past skillfully woven into the present. We barrack for Nell, her daughters and the acerbic but always intriguing Yen. I look forward to the next instalment.

    Mystery plus

Ilsa Evans combines a main character-narrator with a wry style of humour, a family of colourful characters including the main character's feisty mother and five daughters, and a murder in a small Australian town setting. I enjoyed every moment of this often light- hearted mystery where the characters rang true. Nell Forrest embodies a modern Australian heroine who struggles to keep herself financially and emotionally afloat after her husband of many years deserts her for a younger local woman. She does this with a self-deprecatory sense of humour, some angst and a generous amount of support and grief from her mother, daughters and sister. Mixed in with this is her natural inquisitiveness that leads her on the dangerous quest to solve a local murder.

    Fun mystery

I found this book by chance but am really glad I did. A down to earth, realistic and fun story about a small Australian town, a family and murder. I enjoyed the story line , the fun and didn't guess the outcome.
