  • A must read!!!!

Patricia D Eddy is a brilliant writer. From a technical standpoint, she’s pretty flawless. More than that her characters have depth and a realness that is all too rare in the romance genre. In Her Sights is such an amazing book for so many reasons! The characters are beautifully flawed to perfection. We get to know them, their insecurities and innermost demons and dreams. We root for them and cry with them. We also scream at them in frustration at times. Inara is strength and brokenness in a beautiful package. She is haunted but unrelenting in her pursuits. Royce is a haunted shell of his former self and trying to overcome his mistakes and learn to live in the wake of his physical and mental changes. When they find each other they don’t fix the other. What they do is help the other find the bravery within themselves to face their wholeness and forge towards hope. Add in suspense, foul-mouthed lovable friends, realistic military but not missions, and falling in complicated but true love and you have this amazing book. One of my favorite things about this series is Eddy’s refusal to shy away or make lite of the realities of military service, especial those in elite forces. I can’t read a lot of the military romances these days, too many bad experiences, but I eat these up like a hot and now Krispy Kreme.donut. Lol. But really, this book is one I’ll recommend a thousand times. The first in the series is amazing as well. I enjoyed reading in order but it’s not a necessity as this is truly a stand-alone. I requested and received an arc copy of this book. I enjoyed it enough that I purchased it as well. This is my voluntary, true, and honest opinion.

  • I Love Strong women

I received an ARC of this book and in exchange, promised to give you my honest review. I like the way Patricia Eddy forms her characters. Most, and this book was no exception, are woven with multicolored threads of emotion and angst, so that the reader is struck by how utterly human they are. This book brought all of that home for me. First you have Inara. She's a sniper, although the term sharpshooter is used in the book. She works for a paramilitary group who specialize in tight, and very secret rescues (picture a kidnap for ransom in another country). On one of those mission, she believes she hesitated and caused the death of one of the other operatives. Then we have Royce, who had tumor that needed removed, and had a stroke during the surgery. He wakes up in the recovery room, his entire world and life has changed. Fighting his way back to feeling that he is human and functional again has been an uphill battle. The two of them have mutual friends who've decided that they should meet. I was really glad Patricia Eddy chose this way for the two of them to meet. It gave an intimacy to their very first exchanges that wouldn't have been there had she had the characters meet in a bar or coffee shop. They both knew immediately they'd been set up. I LOVE imperfect characters, because I've never met a perfect person in real life and I want to know, even if I'm reading a fantasy, that the characters are true to life and believeable. These two are beyond believeable. I found myself cheering for them during their "ups" and being nervous during their "downs". The story follows the two of them while they both continue fighting the demons that haunt them and grow closer at the same time. It has some action too, so don't think this is just cerebral. :-) Overall, I'm SO glad I volunteered to read the ARC. My only problem is that I read it on Kindle, and the only way to leave this review was to mark it as a paperback. So I'll come back and make sure the Kindle edition, when launched, gets the same attention. :-)

  • Mature!

I love how this series is shaping up to be. Inara and Royce are both dealing with their own demons but the chemistry together is explosive. There are health issues and guilt, steam and fun. I love that the relationship develops organically and they are mature about what they are going through.
