  • A gripping story

An original slant on a story told many times before in different ways. It kept me reading until late as I needed to findout more as the drama unfolded. The settings were convincing and characters mostly realistic. Well worth a few hours reading.

  • In her wake

No surprises, you knew what was coming round the corner but all the same it was an engaging story and could easily happen.

  • Awful

I really couldn't get into this. Pages and pages of dreary self-obsession and 'reflections'. Far too self-indulgent to be entertaining. I really felt I should have asked for my money back. I tried, but it never seemed to get going, and get past the woman's obsession with her mother. Gave up before too long. I can't understand the good reviews really. I couldn't relate at all to the main character, and just wanted her to get over herself. There may have been an interesting tale later on, but the first few or more chapters needed far better editorial control to keep the readers' interest.

  • Excellent!!!

"In Her Wake" written by Amanda Jennings is one brilliantly, mesmerising and compelling book that left me in quite a daze if not speechless once I'd finished. I truly wanted this story to last forever and savoured every word on every page. Such beautiful, beautiful writing with wonderfully well developed characters even though they were often damaged. Sublime, creative and at times fabulously emotive narrative and dialogue rounded off this unique and moving book. This story is just so full of feeling and emotion and slow burning suspense that one minute I was smiling the next I was full of tears as the story continued to unfold page by page. 'A perfect life … until she discovered it wasn’t her own. A tragic family event reveals devastating news that rips apart Bella’s comfortable existence. Embarking on a personal journey to uncover the truth, she faces a series of traumatic discoveries that take her to the ruggedly beautiful Cornish coast, where hidden truths, past betrayals and a 25-year-old mystery threaten not just her identity, but also her life.' Living by the coast myself, I imagined every scene at Cornwall with such clarity to a point I could hear the waves and smell the salt air. The last few chapters sent shivers down my spine and I totally refused to stop reading until it was completely finished. There's so much I want to talk about but can't as it would spoil it for those who haven't read it yet but I will say this book MUST be read, its divine, gripping and contains many genres to keep a whole audience of readers happy and fully immersed - crime, psychological, family drama etc - all of which combine to make "In Her Wake" an unputdownable book which will stay with me for a VERY long time. Loved, loved it and loved it some more and I highly recommend, it's one of those atmospheric books you will feel so much better for reading. Amanda Jennings you are a star writer and I am now your number one fan! 5 stars and then some!!!
